Description
The goal that moved the renowned American architect George Nelson to design this lounge chair was the search for comfort and free movement without forgetting a touch of humor. This is how the Coconut Chair was conceived, a timeless icon of 20th century furniture.
The summer season, a tropical environment that invites us to relax, a fresh coconut cut into eight portions, and when you taste one, you remember what inspired George Nelson to create this chair, which was presented in 1955 and is produced in Europe by Vitra.
It is a 1950s design icon who, along with others, set a new trend in early 20th century American furniture. A simple and original shape that invites you to sit-down and that was made with minimal use of materials.
On a base of three tubular steel legs, we find a white plastic and fiberglass’s shell that merges with a padded one-piece seat.
Its triangular shape remind us a portion of coconut but with the inverted color. The highest corner, the backrest, is longer than the sides and it is that subtle detail that gives it so much confort.
Available in a wide range of fabric and leather colors that covers the seat.
The first concept has remained almost intact, but as George Nelson said “Design is the answer of social change” and therefore its manufacture is now more sustainable, using technologies that reduce CO2 production and with greater protection in the processes.
We recommend this spacious chair, which is part of the permanent collection of many design museums around the world, to give your rooms that surprising and timeless touch, while delighting yourself with its sinuous curve and comfort.
There are no longer any excuse for the Coconut Chair to be present in the decoration of our homes and offices.
