Description

The Tip Ton chair was edited in 2011 and designed by Edwar Barber & Jay Osgerby for the Royal Society of Arts Academy of Tipton, which, although in the end it could not be used, contributed to the creation of a tremendously ingenious and conscious seat. .

«Learning is a difficult, exciting, deliberate, innovative and creative process that brings satisfaction and the desire to succeed.»

A chair designed for 21st century students and which also had to comply with the conclusions of the ETH in Zurich: sitting leaning forward avoids physical problems and promotes circulation, which allows for better concentration.

This gave rise to Tip Ton, a joint project between Vitra and the English architects. A chair that required up to thirty prototypes to reach the seat of only 4.5 kg, made of injection-moulded polypropylene and that allows us to sit in two different positions.

We start in the normal position and just by leaning forward a little we have the new position that helps keeping the pelvis and spine upright. This is possible thanks to a nine degree angle that the saddle has at the front of the skate.

This chair, which improves circulation of muscles and abdomen, was not used at the RSA Academy due to the time it took to develop it, but it did give rise to a new category of chairs that are also used at home, offices… a perfect chair for everyone.

It is available in solid plastic in a wide range of colors and is stackable. We also have the Tip Ton RE version, 100% recyclable and available only in dark grey.

It is important to remember that it is not suitable for temporary sun exposure.

As a culmination, a stacker cart for eleven Tip Ton chairs was also designed.

This seat from the Barber & Osgerby studio combines industrial design, furniture design and architecture. It is also a fun chair that represents a revolution in the way of sitting.
