The Eames Plastic Armchair DAR belongs to the group of chairs and armchairs that the Eames designed and presented in the «Low-Cost Furniture design» competition organized by MoMA in 1948. The first plastic chairs in history industrially produced appeared in 1950.
The goal of Charles & Ray Eames’ when they designed these chairs was
«Getting more of the best for more people and for less».
Their research, with alternative materials resulting from World War II, led them to use the «Zenaloy» glass fibre-reinforced polyester resin in an innovative way, moulding the shell to fit the human body.
