The designer’s goal when she created the E 1027 side table was to answer her sister need, have breakfast in bed.
Eileen Gray conceived this furniture with a height-adjustable tubular steel structure and, originally, with a plexiglass top.
She designed it in 1927 and it is part of the furniture she conceived for her House E 1027 on the French Riviera.
The name corresponds to an encrypted code:
- Eileen’s E,
- 10 for J,
- 2 for B and
- 7 for Gray’s G…
… making her partner and colleague Jean Badovici participate in his designs.

The table E 1027 is composed of a base structure and another, which supports the top, inserted in the lower one. With a simple ironwork with a thin chain, it is adjustable in different heights.
In addition to the original finish, it is available in matt black steel for the structure and in different shades of glass for the top.
